WALKING ON THE PAVEMENTS IS A TORTURE

The pavement become tortures for people because they generally do not have a standard and most of them were constructed incorrectly. These misfits appear especially in the bad weather conditions. To exemplify, in rainy days, the uneven surface on the pavement become slippery. Moreover, owing to the holes on the pavement puddles are emerged and walking becomes more painful. The poor fill material brings about stones to dislocate. As a result of this, the danger of people getting injured or falling down come into existence. (Less Tolerance for Error)
The chamber of architecture Ankara chairman Fatih Söyler also pointed out that there no other city in the world where there are a lot of irrespectful behavior towards pedestrians.

The pavements are too narrow to walk, furthermore, trees, street lamps, billboards and cars make obstacles for people. (Size and Spaces not for Approach and Use)

As you can see in this picture, the pavement' stones dislocated and the resulting valleys full of water. In addition to this problem, the uneven surface that comprised of unqualified floor cover become slippery. In this pavement WALKING WITHOUT FALLING IS IMPOSSIBLE!

The pedestrians are forgotten!!!

The citizens of Ankara have to walk on the pavements whose width is 50 centimeter because of the workings done by public authorities in addition to this fact, they are used as not official car parks and kiosks. This makes the situation even worse. As a result of these, we can easily say that priority is given to vehicle transportation over the pedestrians. (Size and Space not for Approach and Use)
People With disabilities
Disabled people are also pedestrians but the ramps on the pavements are not appropriate them to climb up. They are not really for handicapped people, they are only for show. (Unflexibility in Use)

In the picture, the pavement is too narrow. Moreover, on the pavement there is an ivy that completely cover the pass. HOW CAN WE WALK ON THIS PAVEMENT?

CROSSPASSES AND STAIRS

In Kızılay, in order not to interfere the traffic flow, too many overpasses and subways are constructed. However, the situation has just gone to the opposite direction for the pedestrians especially disabled, old, pregnant women and children. They find it difficult and they throw themselves to the road instead of using the gateways and subways. To defend themselves, they claim that the stairs which are used intensively by the citizens of Ankara has a lot of disadvantages. Those with dent base and collapsed surfaces are forming threat fort the children and elders. While their weight and height are not appropriate stairs totally. ( Not Simple and Intuitive Use)

To illustrate, because of the rain and the snow ,stairs get covered with ice, becoming dangerous and impracticle. The stairs on the overpasses are at different levels and too high for people’s anatomy to walk easily. Some of them are broken, old, rugged and constructed without considering the potential users. (High physical Effort) Therefore, they choose the vehicle road to cross the street. This action may cause accidents and even risk their lives. (Not Tolerance For Error) Lack of traffic lights, traffic signals and ignorance of the traffic policemen increases the use of vehicle road. The funny thing about this situation is that there are 17 overpasses just in the 500 km distance in the Meşrutiyet Street. Not only they are not used by pedestrians, but also this leads to visual pollution.

There is  no way other than stairs. HOW DISABLED PEOPLE ACROSS THE OTHER SIDE? DO THEY HAVE TO BE STUCK IN THEIR HOUSES??( Unflexibility in Use)

Erdal Kurtlaş who is the president of Şehir Plancılar Odası pointed out that the stairs which are located in the city center are unable to be reconstructed, Kurtlaş stated: “During the process of planning the city each people must be considered from the youngest one to the disabled. Because stairs are handicaps for especially these disabled people. The problems of the pedestrians are ignored by the city authorities. (karanfil sokak,Sakarya caddesi)

RAMPS THAT FORGETS THE DISABLED PEOPLE

During the process of working, for the disabled people, essential precaution and appropriate arrangement are not considered in details by the authorities. The most important reason is that there has not been enough implementation fort his situation before. According to the Law of Disabled People existing all places such as formal buildings every road and pavements, pedestrian roads, social and cultural places have to be suitable for handicapped people. To illustrate, 50 of the 500 busses which are bought for the city transportation have the required elevator equipment for disabled. Because of this situation, disabled people are forced to use private vehicle and taxis. Disabled people comprising 12,2
% of the population of Ankara are isolated from society due to these inappropriate transportation conditions.

The ramps are constructed for handicapped people to climb up to the pavements but the thing is the slope of those ramps are not appropriate for disabled people to use. They are too high and even narrow to pass through. To uplift disabled people, their kiths and kins have to overexert or be too strong because
these ramps are more scarped than the standard ramps. These ramps are just built to be there not to be used, not to solve the problems of the disabled. (Unflexibility in use, high physical effort, size and space not for approach and use)

Just think that you are disabled, would you like to continue your life stucking in your home and contending with others help all the time, with the awareness of living actively if you live in another country?

THE SUBWAYS FOR SHOW

The subways were constructed full of engineering mistakes in Ankara. In these gateways, traffic can be blocked; however, while people are not able to see the plocked area, an accident can occur easily.

The risk of accident is increased because subways do not allow drivers to see the traffic in front of them while they enter to the subway or exit, even though these subways accelerate the flow of the traffic. The proof of these, it can be seen that there are brake traces on the road of the subways such as in the crossroad of Şaşmaz.

Moreover, in the rainy days, the subways are full of water and traffic stream stops.
The subways which are just because of the reason showpiece, and the other roads such as crossroads that are over those subways were built with lots of errors. These ways which are narrow and not done according to engineering principles, creates a threat for traffic order. There are some crossways which leads drivers to the middle of the crowded main roads just after the finish of the turnings. Even if you are an expert driver, you might not accomplish your turn. (less tolerance for error)
